Pinned topic EXternal disk to SVC and host at same time

‏2013-03-14T14:24:36Z |
We are going to migrate disk off a HDS array to SVC/XIV, the HDS replicates to a DR site using Truecopy.

A caveat of the migration is that SVC GM replication has to be in place between the local and remote SVC clusters before HDS Truecopy can be switched off and then migration of the HDS disk to SVC managed disk can take place.

At the beginning of these actions we will have the HDS LUNs still in use by the host as direct attached storage and also have the LUN's presented as MDisks to the SVC to bring them in as Image mode volumes from which we can setup the initial GM relationships (whilst Truescopy replication is still taking place).

Does anyone have any concerns with this or have done this previously and have experiences to share?

TIA

This technote might be some use:

    Using Native Controller Copy Services

It doesn't look like that sort of usage has been tested with an HDS storage system, so you may want to contact your IBM rep to discuss.

The general guidance would certainly apply; using image mode cache-disabled volumes and putting them into a dedicated managed disk group (storage pool).

I assume it's only the source volumes on the HDS which you would be importing into SVC?

Thanks Chris, interesting reading in the technote.
Yes, its the source volumes only.
