Pinned topic cNFS interfaces: Physical or Virtual?

‏2013-03-08T21:01:23Z |
Hello,

When setting up a cNFS cluster, should either a physical interface or virtual interface be used?

If you look at the information here:

https://www.ibm.com/developerworks/mydeveloperworks/wikis/home/wiki/General%20Parallel%20File%20System%20%28GPFS%29/page/NFS%20and%20GPFS?lang=en

It states that a virtual interface should be used, because fail over is faster and it will avoid the delay of bringing up the link on fail back.

However, I have seen recommendations to keep the link on a physical interface. Only during fail over is a virtual interface brought up. That said, I have not see many reasons for keeping it on a physical interface.

Thank you

    Hi,

Its not a question of "should" - you can use either.
I prefer to use virtual because of the reasons mentioned in the link below - but both options will work.
