Pinned topic Clearcase VOBs hang after 2 weeks of continous usage

Hi..

It is found that the clearcase VOBs hangs and are unable to access if not re-started once in 2 weeks.
At the time in the event viewer application log DBMS errors are seen.
The errors are like "db_server.exe DBMS error D:\Clearcase_Storage\VOBs\xxxx.vbs\db" and "vobrpc_server.exe Cannot open database D:\Clearcase_Storage\VOBs\xxxx.vbs\db". These issues will be resolved after restart of the server.

We are using Windows server 2003 standard edition service pack 2.
The processor is intel xeon E5620 and with 2.40 GHZ and 4.00 GB memory.
We are using clearcase multisite version 8.0.0.1

Could anybody suggest what may be the cause of the issue and any possible solutions for the same.?

    I'm afraid all I can do is ask questions:

    What is your Clearcase version?
    How many VOBs are there?
    What is/are the exact error message(s)? Generally there are error numbers in the messages.
    What are your lock manager parameters?
    Does restarting ClearCase (as opposed to restarting the server) also free things up? If so, what are your desktop heap settings?

    We had an issue last week, where to VOBs weren't accessible with several error messages, if I remember right, some -920 errors.

    After restarting the server, everything was fine.

    We know the storage network isn't as reliable as we want to.

    I had a call with IBM, they said, that this could be a reason.
    If the services albd, vob, db ... can't access the db files in a short time, those problems can occur.

    The unknowns would help. I think it would also help to see the db_server log.

    To get a text printout of the db_server log:
    cleartool getlog db
