Pinned topic ServerGuide on USB

‏2013-03-07T13:59:53Z |
I am having a problem with the serverguide working from DVD. I get to the point of completing the creation of the raid partition and selecting the OS and it crashes. I had this happen on 2 x3650m4 servers with 2 different DVDs. Is there a way to boot the serverguide from USB? Right now that is my quickest option available.
We are using dvd-r and wonder if we should be using dvd+r for ibm?

Thanks

    Dear Troy,

there is info in ServerGuide readme file:

"Note: Burning the ISO image to a DVD is not supported. The ISO image must be burned to a CD to work correctly."

BTW, you can use iMM2 Remote Control for mounting ServerGuide ISO image. If you have not iMM2 Advanced license for Remote Control, you can order evaluation one.

We've successfully deployed Windows OS by booting to ServerGuide v9.30 on DVD+R media.

Conceptually (not tested), you should be able to boot from a USB drive (F12 Boot Selection) in FAT32 format by copying the content (850MB) of that DVD (or expanded ServerGuide ISO downloaded from IBM).

Instructions on preparing the USB key (procedures taken from IBM ServerGuide Scripting Toolkit User's Reference):

    1. Insert your USB key in the system.
    2. Open a command prompt.
    3. Use diskpart.exe to format the USB key as a single FAT32 partition spanning the entire key, and set the partition to active, as shown in this example.

    diskpart
    list disk
select disk 1 <---Make sure disk 1 is your USB key.
    clean
    create partition primary
    select partition 1
    active
    format fs=fat32
    assign
    exit

USB boot is confirmed to work by prepping the USB key (flash drive) as shown above and copying the contents of ServerGuide DVD (or expanded ISO).
