Pinned topic DS3512 - SAS Blade Center connection

‏2013-03-04T21:02:11Z |
Hi,

I have DS3512 storage and a Blade Center S with 4 blade servers.
Blade Center has 2 internal storage modules already connected.
XenServer farm is running on the Blade Center.

I am trying to connect DS3512 storage to the blade center via SAS modules.
I can see connection on the Blade Center side (screenshot is attached).
When I am trying to create SAS host via DS Storage Manager it cannot find unassociated host port identifiers (because each server has two host port identifier and use them for connections to two internal storages).

Can I assign host port identifier that already in use?

    Hello,

Firstly, sorry to hear you have an IBM Blade Center S, they are a P.I.T.A.

You will need to Zone your external ports to the relevent Blade Slots within the Blade Center S Chassis.

To do this you will need to install Storage Configuration Manager on a server or computer and register your two SAS RAID modules within it, from there you can manage them and configure the Zoning Sets.
Note: Make sure you DO NOT overwrite existing configurations...

The following link should help you allot.

    good luck!!

    Bernie.

    Continuing...

Once they are Zoned to the external ports correctly, do q quick disk rescan on your Blades (so the WWN's can be presented to the DS3512) then go to your DS3512 and they should show up in "un-associated".
If they do not show up there is something wrong.

NOTE: Sometimes you need to rescan multiple times for the to be seen.

Let us know how you go..

      Thanks Bernie!
It should work. My current zoning does not provide access from blades to external ports.
But, I need to fix other issues on the blade center before configuration changes.

      Again, thanks a bunch!
