I'm new to coding Streams. Is it considered a best practice to define tuples in "type" statements, rather than within each operator? It seems more readable to me that way.

This is the accepted answer. You could consider defining tuple types in type statements as a "best practice". It makes sense when defining types, say, in a composite, that should be used with that composite. Also if you are going to reference the same type multiple times, you don't want to redefine it every time. Also it makes defining complex nested tuple types easier.
