Pinned topic p5 running AIX 5.3 and AIX 6.1 LPARS

‏2013-02-05T18:24:31Z |
Hi all

I am having an issue trying to get my p5 9117-570 to run 2 LPARS, one with AIX 5.3 ML5 and another with AIX 6.1 TL5. If I start the AIX 5 LPAR on its own it runs without any issues, same senario with the AIX 6 LPAR. If I try to start the second LPAR while the first is already running, I get a B700F104 error. Both partitions have dedicated resources, no VIO or DLPAR.

HMC version 7.7.3
Server firmware version SF240-418

What I am trying to ascertain is if the above is supported on p5.

Thanx

I'm not familiar with B700F104 so you may need IBM support to help you out.

But first question I'd ask is:

    • Is your frame licensed for PowerVM ? and if so what version ?

Post up your VET code or decipher using instructions here:

    Hello

No, it is not licenced for PowerVM but I have the same running on a 9117-570 but this one is a 1.9Ghz p5+ whereas the one giving me headaches is a 1.65Ghz p5. Both are just plain LPARS with dedicated processor, memory and i/o. Need to find out if it is a processor issue but cannot find any info.

    Thanx

Does the HMC contain any other serviceable errors that occured around the same time ?

If so, they might provide a clue as to the root cause of your problem.

Otherwise, I can only suggest -> a call to IBM h/w support is next.

Thanx. I have deconfigured memory. Think that's what is causing the issue.
