Pinned topic Trying to get a clear understanding of the install of RAD.

Hello all,

When you install RAD, there are options to install:
Server tools
->WAS 8.5 - Liberty Profile
->WAS 8.5
-->Development Tools
-->Remote server stub
-etc...
Code quality tools
->Code Analysis
->Line level code coverage
->RUP
->Test and performance tools

What makes up the "test server" environment? I have everything under "Code quality tools" installed, but I am told that the users need the test servers installed. When you choose the options under Server tools, does that install a WAS server for testing? Or is this something that you install WAS on your own?

Sorry for such a beginning question, help did not guide much.

    Hi when you are installing Rational Application Developer, in the "Select features to install" page,
    under Server tools,
    e.g The WebSphere Application Server 8.5
    There are two selections:
    Development tools,
    Remote server stubs.

    Here are some main points:

    Selecting them does not mean that you have installed a Websphere application server test environment (i.e. local Test server).

    Selecting the remote server stubs - is for people who do not intend to install a local
    test server, they just need the stubs for compilation purposes (build time only) for their development.

    Selecting the Development tools, provide you with the server tooling to publish and work with the websphere appication server .
    If you do not select this point, then you
    will not be able to add the server instance in the RAD workbench.

    I hope this clarifies a bit. Thanks

    Please go to the rational support portal for more information.

    http://www-947.ibm.com/support/entry/portal/downloads/software/rational/rational_application_developer_for_websphere_software

    You will need to download and intsall the websphere server separately.

    This is the passport advantage part list for RAD 8.5
