Pinned topic Limiting license for CC/CQ users using flexlm

‏2013-01-31T11:33:30Z |
Hi All,

We are using Flexlm floating license for both Clearcase and Clearquest. We need to do some maintenance work on Clearquest. Could you please tell me how to limit the Clearquest and Clearcase licenses only to admin user and couple of normal users?

Thanks in advance.

Cheers,
Jose

If you have an "options" file already configured for your license server, it's pretty simple. All you would do is add a couple of lines to the file:
    INCLUDE ClearCase USER user1 user1 user3
    INCLUDE ClearQuest USER user1 user2 user3

You would then either restart the license server or run an lmutil lmreread. Please note that REMOVING the include option may not take immediate effect after a reread. (Check the server log after running the lmreread, it will tell you if there will be a processing delay.)

This file would normally be in the same directory as either the license files or executables, and has a default name of "rational.opt" or ibmratl.opt depending on your license server version. It may also be specified as an option in the license file.

More information on the options file an be found in the license administration guide you can get from Flexera's documentation and utilities download site at http://www.globes.com/support/fnp_utilities_download.htm

    Hi Brian,

Thanks for the update. Right now, we have more than 600 clearquest and clearcase users. As stated in the Flexlm manual, I need to specify all the user names to create Exclude Group on the options file

Is there any short cut to exclude all the users except 1 or 2 admin accounts?

    Cheers,
    Jose

If you INCLUDE users for a specific feature (without specifying any limit to the inclusion) you will exclude all other users.

    So:
    INCLUDE ClearCase USER admin1 admin2

Will not allow any user BUT "admin1" or "admin2" to check out ClearCase licenses. It will take up to 20 minutes for the ClearCase/ClearCase MultiSite users to be locked out due to client-side license caching, but they will eventually be locked out.
