Pinned topic Will Content Navigator support publish function?

‏2013-01-28T19:00:14Z |
Right now we use workplace to create publish template and do publish because Workplace XT does not have this feature so far.
for this new client interface Content navigator, is there any plan to support publish in the future release? I know there is "download as pdf" function, but it still not what our client want.

It might help if you can tell us a bit about the use case that you are solving with Publishing in AE. It may be that we have solutions now that can handle your use case and if not, this will help us to determine if the use case is one that will fit into our feature set in a future release.

It is a typical publish use case: admin create a publish template, user add an office document, then go through lifecycle, draft-review-approval-final, when the document go to final state, end user will select the publish template to publish or republish.

Most of what you mention (lifecycle, workflow, etc) can be accomplished without a publish template. So what I'm looking for is, specifically what benefit do you gain from the publish template? For example, is it a new copy of the document that's autogenerated on a specific event, a change in security based on the state of the document, etc.

We've found that many scenarios for publish templates can be accomplished today through standard P8 Content Engine and Process Engine events, security, and/or properties features. However, there may be some specific features of the use case that rely on Rendition Engine or something beyond standard Content Engine/Process Engine capabilities.

        Thanks!

we rely on RE to convert office docs to PDF. for current XT users who need to use RE function, we have to use workplace to create the publish template and event action to publish doc when XT user change certain doc properties.

But seems there will be no new version of workplace any more and workplace is the only client to support publish template feature(of cause we can manually create the publish xml file, :-?!)

if workplace is eventually going to out-of-market, there should be a client tool to manage publish template or how can we use RE?

We generally cannot comment on product roadmap on a public forum. I would encourage you to reach out to your IBM rep for a detailed roadmap briefing.

Having said that, Content Navigator is completely customizable so this capability could be added through the plugin interface by an IBM business partner, services, or even a customer directly.
