If you already installed IBM Installation Manager, then all you need to do is add the location to one or more of the WebSphere Application Server trial edition repositories.

WAS v8.5 Trials & ILAN repository locations
WebSphere Application Server - Express v8.5
    http://www.ibm.com/software/repositorymanager/V85WASExpressTrial

    WebSphere Application Server
    http://www.ibm.com/software/repositorymanager/V85WASBASETrial

    WebSphere Application Server for Developers
    http://www.ibm.com/software/repositorymanager/V85WASDeveloperILAN

WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment Edition
    http://www.ibm.com/software/repositorymanager/V85WASNDTrial

WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment DMZ Proxy
    http://www.ibm.com/software/repositorymanager/V85NDDMZTrial

WebSphere Application Server Edge Load Balancer
    http://www.ibm.com/software/repositorymanager/V85EDGEULBTRIAL

    IBM HTTP Server
    http://www.ibm.com/software/repositorymanager/V85IHSILAN

    WebSphere Application Server Supplements
(includes IHS, Web Server Plug-ins, WebSphere Customization Toolkit which has the Web Server Plug-in Config Tool, and more)
    http://www.ibm.com/software/repositorymanager/V85WASSupplements

WebSphere Web 2.0 and Mobile Toolkit
    http://www.ibm.com/software/repositorymanager/V11W2MTKILAN

Note that the WebSphere Application Server repositories already include links into the repository for the WebSphere Supplements. So, for example, after adding the respository for WebSphere Application Server, when you go through the Install Wizard you will also have options displayed to choose to install IBM HTTP Server, the web server plug-ins and the WebSphere Customization Toolkit).
The installation and creation process is basically the same as it was for version 8.0.

    Hi Scott,

We have been trying to locate the WAS 8.5.0.x installation repository but is only able to see the 8.5.5.0.  Is there any way to get around this issue?

The default behavior for IBM Installation Manager is to try to install the latest version of the product package that is available. However, you can choose to install the product at any version level that is available.  For the trial editions WebSphere Application Server version 8.5.x you can use the same repository location in your preferences to install version 8.5.5.0 (currently the latest version level), but can also easily install versions 8.5.0.0, 8.5.0.1, or 8.5.0.2.  To view and select earlier versions of an installation package, go to the panel where you "Select packages to install:" and then check the checkbox to "Show all versions." The list of available packages will refresh and you will see individual checkboxes for each version level.

    Thanks Scott,

Looks like I missed the last step of "Show all versions" after the "Check for Other Versions..."

    Hi,

    I tried http://www.ibm.com/software/repositorymanager/V85WASDeveloperILAN

I am able to successfully connect to the repositories and install the WAS v8.5 Developer Edition and WAS v8.5 Trials Edition.

Alternatively, you can try downloading one of the WAS v8.5.5 edition repositories to your local machine and installing that way. Just visit one of the DeveloperWorks sites:

    WAS Base Trial v8.5.5 = http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/downloads/ws/was/

    WAS Developer Edition v8.5.5 = http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/downloads/ws/wasdevelopers/index.html

Click the Download button for Download Director or HTTP. This will take you through to a download page where you can download compressed archives of the repositories. After downloading all the archive parts, decompress them to a common location. Then, start Installation Manager and add the local directory path to the Repository Preferences.

The other alternative is to use the Packaging Utility (http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg27025142) [At this time, I suggest using a version between 1.5.2 and 1.6.4] and use it to reconstruct the IBM repository on your local machine. As with Installation Manager, Packaging Utility needs to connect to and authenticate with the IBM hosted repository. Afterwards, you can specify the installation packages you want in your local repository.

    Thanks Scott,

i've found the problem was the compnay proxy. For some unknow reasons it blocks the access to the repositories via the Installation Manager. But if i try the urls via browser, they works.

    Thanks again for your support.

    Regards
