Pinned topic Creating A prompt page which allows me to select a certain promot page I

‏2013-01-24T11:48:12Z |
Dear all,

I have a prompt page which allow the user to select a certain product, product_Group_ supplier and so on.
the problem is that I want to give the user 3 options when it comes to the prompt pages:

option 1: the page should include a normal value promnpt (meaning listing all data in the database) ( which i done)

option 2: I want to have the same prompts but they should be cascaded on each other ! (which is also i can do)

option 3: another design for the same prompt but cascaded diffrently. (which is also i can do)
my problem is! I can creat all those pages, But i need a main prompt page which allow the user to select which which page of those 3 pages he will select.

    Hi Zayad,
Create 4 Prompt pages and name it like
    1)Main Page
    2)Option 1
    3)Option 2
    4)Option 3

in Main Prompt page create value prompt and add 3 static choices ('Option 1','Option 2','Option 3')
delete all the prompt buttons in the footer.
And Value Prompt Properties Auto Submit change No to Yes.

    Under Condition Explorer
Create one String variable and write code as below
case when ParamDisplayValue(main page value prompt parameter)='Option 1'
    then 'Option 1'
case when ParamDisplayValue(main page value prompt parameter)='Option 2'
    then 'Option 2'
    else 'Option 3'
    end
Finally go to Option 1 Prompt page and Page Properties Under Conditional Select Render Variable
and then Point to your string variable as you created earlier.
as you can see there three option select only Option 1
this same step follow to other 2 pages also.

now run the report the main page will prompt you to select option
Please note that You have to place the main page as I sorted already above.

    thanks,
    Suresh.

        Hi Zayed,
The error is in your case statement only.
        case statement should be like
        case
        when statement....
        then
        when statement....
        then
        else
        end.

But in your case statement you written like

        case
        when statement
        then
        case when statement
        then
        else
        end

Please check your case statement properly.

        thanks,
        Suresh.

I have created a sample report and attached to this post.

No need the case statement to work with.

have a look and let me know.

            Thanks,
            Winson.

            small question,

since now the prompt pages are working correctly, how can I link them to my report page.
I tried the main promot page and it working and it took me to the prompt page I want.
know after i fill the prompts in the prompt page it doesnot take me to the report page, its just dispear when I fire the report

              Oh thanks all,

I solved the problem, I just had to create a new paramter for each prompt. but Iam using the same old quires and Iam filtering the olf main query.

this means that the new prompt in the new pages have effect on the old main query! and this what i wanted.

@wison: thank alot, I will take a look at your report soon.

my problem now is that in the new prompt pages, the prompts has no effect on the main query :(. any idea?

for exsample I select from the main prompt page
                  > page two
I go to page two and when I slect the supplier and fire the report the report comes out but with no effect from the prompt!

I guess the prompt page selection or parameter not getting apply to the main query to filter it.

if u take a look at my attachment u can get the idea that is why i have post it.

                    anyway get to the point.

let say u have page 1 then (Ex;ur trying to filter on productline then this parameter has to be in the main query as)

                    Productline in ?Pro_line?

check the main query to see if there is any filter getting apply.

                    Winson.
