We are moving a VOB from an HPUX server to a Linux server following the instructions at: https://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/cchelp/v7r1m0/index.jsp?topic=/com.ibm.rational.clearcase.cc_admin.doc/topics/t_mvvob_2os.htm
What is the best way to verify that the VOB and it's data have remained in tact and work as they did within the original environment?

I don't check that these are the ones I think.

Er... How did they say?
- checkvob finds 60% of the problems
- dbcheck finds 30% more
- the users find the rest?
No, seriously... nothing you can do will not depend on the tools you use.
So, if you you trust them, you can as well trust the tools you used for the transfer (dump/load... that's what dbcheck does)
You didn't get errors? You should be OK.
There is no 'right' level of smoke test you can do...

2. Test the infrastructures: checkvob, dbcheck, rgycheck, countdb etc... for each VOB. I know that GoMidjets ClearCheck applies them all and provides a legible report that saves your time.
3. Test the VOBs as an end-user (checkin, checkout, open version tree etc.)

Re: How to verify VOB move from HPUX to Linux?2013-01-23T13:35:25Z in response to cm2006There are 2 critical phases: moving VOB storage and reformatting database.
Writing process output to log files and checking logs for error messages is the first test. Reformatting database is a good test by itself, and after registering the databases at the new location another simple test would allow you to detect most of the issues: "ct describe vob:<vob_tag>" for each relocated VOB.
If you moved views as well, check-out/check-in under different user accounts would be a good test too.
The other problems could be detected after you started using the VOBs at the new location only. You could encounter some issues on the new platform that you were not aware of (such as NAS VOB storage issues for Linux), but it would not be possible to detect them in advance.
