Have 2109 switch. Unfortunately we have to re IP it. Having major problems connecting via serial connection. Lenovao laptop I have does not have serial port so using USB to RS232 convertor attached to a serial cable (which is actually a rs232 to ethernet cable attached to ethernet to RS232 converter).
Have installed drivers for usb converter and have tested the connection to a few servers but cannot get a response from the 2109 switch using either hyperterminal or ssh!!
Any advice would be appreciated

Re: Serial connection to IBM 2109-F16 switch2013-01-22T08:06:01Z in response to SystemAdmin1. Be aware, Broadcom switches requires straight-through serial cable, not null-modem.
2. Almost all USB-to-Serial converters doesn't emulate all rs-232 pinouts, so, try to find near switch an device with "real" serial port.
3. Try to connect your laptop to SAN switch LAN port, best using crossover cable, launch an network analyzer, like WireShark, and sniff network traffic. Switch periodically sends broadcast packets and you'll see it current IP address.
