Pinned topic Prob in Moving a Package from Dev to Prod

‏2013-01-16T13:24:34Z |
Hi All,

I Have a problem in Migration of Package from Dev to Prod.

• I have used the import/export option to move a package from Dev to Prod.
• The Dev Database name is "EDWD" and Prod database is "EDWP"
• The Datasource is EDW which is available in both Dev and Prod both pointing to its respective databases.

When I try running the report in Prod the following error message is displayed.
In the error message I was able to makeout that the still it is pointing to the Dev Database "EDWD".
I have re-checked the Datasource connection string it is pointing to Prod db only.

Error Msg:
An error occurred while performing operation 'sqlPrepareWithOptions' status='-56'.

    Hi HP

Have you checked that the LU_Branch_Region object is existing in the Prod DB?

    Hi,

Yes the table is available, all the tables in Dev are in Prod.

Moreover in the error you can see the EDWD.dbo.LU_Branch so its is still pointing to Dev database.
The reason why it give a error message the Datasource is pointing to Prod Server but for some reason Dev Database name "EDWD" gets generated in SQL.

    Thanks

You probably have different FM models for Dev and Prod. I am assuming it is picking up the data source name from what is defined in these models prior to being published.

You should be able to correct this in the model and do a re-publish.

To do this properly, you should have the same data source name in both environments. Under that data source you can define the the connection to point to a different server/database without affecting the package.

while doing the export of the package did you selected the data sources option also ?

    Please check confirm the following.
    1) If you create a new report using the package will that report execute without any error ?
    2) If you create a new report using the package just adding text item and nothing form the metadata will that report run?
    3) Is the data source name in COGNOS is same in both the environments(Dev &Prod) and the data source name in FM?

The answer to your problem is within the screen captures of your previsouly attached word document.

You have specified a catalog entry of EDWD within your model. This is the catalog the package is going to use until you change it and re-publish the model.

A deployment will not change this hard coded value for you.

As I posted earier, the right way of doing this is to have two identical databases for Dev and Prod with the same name, catalog and schema. From there you can control the access via the connections and their associated permissions.

Since you have different catalogs, you will need to figure out a way to make this portable.

Whatever Daniel has suggested is absolutely correct.
Either you create the Database, Schema, Catalog same in both the environments or else try to change the catalog in prod environment to same as DEV. Once you make these changes then you should not have any issue
