Pinned topic Migration VAGEN to EGL - RBD7.5 vs RBD8

‏2013-01-16T12:14:28Z |
Hi all

I need to know if the migration tool and the results are the same for the migration from VAGEN to RBD 7.5 or RDB 8. Is it necessary to upgrade to RBD 8? I have the manuals of the two versions and constains very few differences.

Thank you very much

Angel

    Hi,

There is no difference between the migration tool in V7.5 and V8. Because of this, we had decided not to republish the VAGen to EGL Migration Guide.

With that said, if you are just moving to RBD/EGL, I would strongly suggest you go ahead with V8.5. This is the latest release and with it, you will have a lot longer time of the product being in service. V8.5 also contains improvements to the COBOL generator, Java Generator, and other parts of the tool that are not in V7.5. Finally, V8.5 will be the release that any enhancements would be done on.

    Thank you very much Mark

My question is because I have a stable and tested environment for migration based on RBD7.5. If we use this enviroment to migrate, and after we import the generated project on RBD 8.0 I don't know if we could have compatibility problems.

Could we use the enviroment with RBD7.5 in order to execute the migration process and in the future import the result in a RBD8?

    Regards

Yes...code that you migrate into V7.5 can be used with V8.5 (or V8.0) without any need for changes.

My suggestion would always be to use a new workspace created at the level you are going to..and then import the projects from V7.5 into it. This just makes sure the workspace itself does not have any "old metadata" that might cause an issue.
