    Hi,

No, it is not possible. There is not an agent for MegaRAID or ServeRAID controllers for vSphere (any version).

The ServeRAID Manager and MegaRAID Storage Manager applications in Windows are for managing Windows servers with those controllers only.

To avoid a vSphere host outage, it is best to host storage externally such as on a DS3000, 4000, or 5000 series storage device or SAN, if your budget permits. If using local storage then you must manage the disks locally via WebBIOS.

    Regards,
    Dave

As far as I understand, it depends on your RAID controller. For some controllers, it is possible, for some others not. Check out this link: http://tinkertry.com/esxi-5-1-can-run-lsi-megaraid-in-a-vm/

    Hi Dave,

    Thanks for your answer.

I noticed a new MegaCLI release which covers vSphere 5.0 and 5.0 U1 (doesn't mention 5.1 specifically). This would allow command-line usage at the host while vSphere is up.

    Just for thought.

    • ignore some of the description on this page, it's out of date compared to the actual notes below, however, version is the same. (bottom of the page correctly mentions vSphere 5.0)
