Pinned topic Reject link for source DB2 connector stage

‏2013-01-02T14:52:32Z |
Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I'm new to Enterprise Edition. Someone here is developing a job that extracts from a DB2 UDB database, and when he tries to attach a reject link to the source stage, he gets this error: "The reject link is not valid with this combination of input and output links." Is this a valid thing to do? Someone else found a tech note which seemed to imply that you're not supposed to be able to do this, but the consultant who's getting the error says he's done it many times before, and claims we have a configuration problem of some sort, or DataStage isn't installed correctly (we recently installed DS EE 8.7).

Never heard of a tech note like this (though I haven't used reject links on db sources). Would you mind sharing it?

I don't know where he found it, but here's what it says (note that we're using DB2 UDB, but according to what it says, the same limitation applies):

Information Server DataStage Oracle Connector compile error: The reject link is not valid with this combination of input and output link

    Technote (troubleshooting)

    Problem(Abstract)
DataStage Designer client allows reject links to be added to source Oracle Connector Stage and properties to be set in the Reject tab. When job is compiled, the following error is generated:

"The reject link is not valid with this combination of input and output link"
    Resolving the problem
Reject links are not supported by any connectivity source stage. This includes the Px Sybase, Px ODBC, Px DB2Z, Px Classic Federation stages,Px DB2 and Px Oracle stages.
Patch JR41720 is available which is a client side patch that will prevent the Reject link from being drawn to any connectivity source stage.

I'm not sure what link you're using, but http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg1JR41720 and http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21614248 applies to 8.1.

Are you actually using the db2 connector stage and not some other one? If so, try raising a PMR with IBM or with whomever installed the environment.

I don't have access to an environment, but from the docs it doesn't seem you can use a reject link on the source. I'll try this when I get a chance, but why would you reject something that you just selected?

It's not to reject a row that was extracted (I agree that wouldn't make sense), but to capture the SQL code in a reject file in the case of a database error. Of course, the error code would be in the job log anyway, but the consultant wanted to capture it in a file. We've opened a PMR with IBM to settle the issue.
