Use of MD5 as SSL Certificate Signature Algorithm. Given that our encryption is 2048 bit, is this issue critical? What are other preferred algorithms/methods?
Can you provide any literature for our better understanding?

Theres various sources of literature online describing how the algorithm is broken and a would be attacker could potentially forge a cert. Newer versions of SHA are commonly considered more secure.
