Configuration of Blade Center Ethernet Switches & IBM Storwize V7000 SAN
Equipment Involve in the Implementation
1. IBM BLADE Server HX5 QTY 3
2. IBM BLADE Server HS22 QTY 1
The Blade Server has three type of dual port adapter installed mention below
1. Broadcom BCM5709S NetXtreme II GigE
2. EMULEX 10GBE VIRTUAL FABRIC ADAPTOR ADVANCE (CFFh)
3. EMULEX 8GB FIBRE CHANNEL EXPAN SION CARD (CIOv)
Switch Module Installed in Blade Center Chasis:
1. BNT Layer 2/3 GB Copper Ethernet Switch Module
2. BNT Virtual Fabric 10Gb Switch Module for IBM Blade Center
3. Brocade 20 port 8Gb SAN Switch Module for IBM Blade Center
IBM SAN Storwize V700
1. 600 GB SAS Hard Disk Quantity 18
Roles of the Server & Application Installed
S.NO Server Model Application Connected To SAN 1Gb& 10Gb Ethernet
1 Blade ServerHX5 VMware Version 5.1 Yes Yes
2 Blade ServerHX5 VMware Version 5.1 Yes Yes
3 Blade ServerHX5 Oracle Database10g Yes Yes
4 Blade ServerHS22 Oracle Forms & Reports 10g NO Yes
ETHERNET SWITCHES CONFIGURATION SCENARIO WRITEUP
We have to connect both the blade HX5 Servers installed with VMware Version 5.1 with the internal ports of 10GB Switch internal ports and the 10GB Blade Switch module external ports with our Cisco 4507 Switch.
In the same manner we need to connect all the three HX5 Servers and HS22 Server with the internal ports of 1GB Switch Module and the 1GB external ports with the Cisco 4507 Switch.
While we will be configuring this 1GB & 10GB connectivity we need to have a testing methodology mention in the SOW to test dual 1G & 10G network connectivity between the Server and the AICL users connected on Cisco 4507 Switch.
CONFIGURATION OF IBM STORWIZE V7000 SAN
IBM Storwize V700 Details:
SAN IMPLEMENTATION DETAILS
S.N Server Model Application Hosted Number of HD RAID Configured No of Volumes
1 Blade HX5 Oracle Database 10g 8 10 1
2 Blade HX5 VMware ESXi 5.1 9 6 2 on both HX5
3 Blade HX5 VMware ESXi .15
Note: The number of HDD in our SAN is 18. In Raid 10 HHD to be used will be 8. In Raid 6 HDD to be used will be 9. One HDD will be used for Hotspare for both the RAID, s configured on the SAN
We need to have a 8 Gb Fiber connectivity redundancy testing between the SAN & SAN Switches & dual Canister redundancy testing methodology
We are facing Network dis connectivity of EMULEX 10GBE VIRTUAL FABRIC ADAPTOR ADVANCE (CFFh)
Please help us someone facing same problem.

Re: Issue Between BC (H) and IBM Networking OS Virtual Fabric 10 Gb Switch2012-12-14T10:17:29Z in response to nkhanWe also got problems with the Emulex-adapters.
There seems to be an issue with the firmware/vmware-driver for this cards.
Do you run it in "Virtual Fabric Mode" or "Switch Independent Mode"?
Switch Independent Mode seems to be the problem.
