Pinned topic NIM deallocate with subclass=all doesn't work

‏2012-12-07T17:49:30Z |
Hi,

I have a strange problem. I can deallocate a specific resource by writing e.g

nim -o deallocate -a mksysb=name.mksysb node1

but I cannot deallocate every resource for this node using the subclass=all

nim -o deallocate -a subclass=all node1

Any thoughts?

    Hi there,

    Same problem for me since I have updated my NIM to 7.1TL02.

    Here is a little script I use to deallocate resources since subclass=all doesn't work anymore

    nim -Fo reset $1

    for i in bosinst_data fb_script image_data installp_bundle lpp_source mksysb nim_script script spot ;

    do ressources_to_clean=$(lsnim -l $1 | grep $i | awk
    '{print $NF}')

    for j in $
    {ressources_to_clean
    } ;

    do echo
    "nim -Fo deallocate -a $i=$j $1" done done

    Any help will be appreciated ....

    Thanks for the script matekamoris.

    My NIM oslevel is 7100-02-01-1245

    I hope someone has a hint of how to fix the problem.

    I've noticed recently that I have several resources still shared on my NIM after I complete a function (installed a package, made a mksysb, updated the OS.) All since I upgraded to TL2 SP1. I guess I could have a similar issue.

    Hi;

    There is an APAR on this subject :
    IV32670: UPDATE NIM BINARIES FOR UPDATES.

    This is what IBM support told me this morning:

    "This is a known issue which recently has been documented in 2 open
    APARs: IV32570 and IV32670: UPDATE NIM BINARIES FOR UPDATES.

    Error description
    One known symptom (of this issue) is that "nim -Fo
    deallocate -a subclass=all <client>" returns successfully but the
    resource will still be allocated.

    The problem occured because the "update" pack that brings you from
    7.1.1.x to 7.1.2.0 missed a piece that effected the bos.sysmgt.7.1.2.0
    fileset.

    Currently there is no fix available and no projected timeframe when this
    issue will be fixed (i assume it will be with the next SP for AIX
    7100-02)

    However, a workaround is allready documented in our incidents
    database - you simply need to force reinstall the bos.sysmgt.nim.master
    7.1.2.0 fileset using your AIX 7.1 TL02 media.

    This is not a backleveling of the fileset, you are simply force
    overwriting the full base level at the same version that you are
    currently at. It will still be at 7100-02.

    The workaround is a force overwrite of the bos.sysmgt.nim.master 7.1.2.0
    from media."

    This was an excellent piece of information that helped me resolve an issue I had with my NIM server.

    Thank you

    How did you force reinstall the nim master fileset? When I force reinstall the nim master using my AIX71 media, I always get the "Updates cannot be specified from the command line when the force flag (-F) is used in combination with the apply flag (-a)." error!

    Thanks for your reply!  I also read the blog. But I do not have the AIX7120 media (only AIX7100 media and 7120 update), also the download address this blog provided is no longer existed.

    I tried to unconfig the NIM, uninstall the NIM master fileset, reinstall the AIX7100 NIM master, update to AIX7120 master, re-config the NIM master env. I thought it would be okay, but it still showed the same problem. Maybe I still need the AIX7120 media to force reinstall the NIM master.

    You'll need the updated install fileset. Open a PMR and request it.

    oh, I finally got the AIX7100-02 complete ISO, not the 7100-02 update files. Using the 7100-02 ISO to force reinstall the NIM master, now it is okay, I can remove nim object now.  Thanks.

    If it's a customisation script wich is allocated, this could do the job :

    /usr/lpp/bos.sysmgt/nim/methods/m_chattr -a alloc_count=0 <script_ressource>
