Pinned topic Pause hangs the session

‏2012-12-06T03:42:13Z |
Hi,

Using Appsca 8.6.0 standard on Windows 7 home. If I need to pause the scan it just hangs. In the status bar it keep saying stopping yet remains there forever.

1) Is there any way to pause and restart the scan
2) is there a way to manually save between scans, especially when the site is big. currently it save automatically at sometime and now struck at 23-25%

Many Thanks

    Kashif:

Just a thought - do you have "Automatically save during scan" enabled? (Tools > Options > Scan Options)
If so, try disabling it and see if you get the same results.
    Thanks.

    Hi,

You may set AutoSave to save more frequently than once every hour (default).
On the other hand, if the site is "big", maybe you need to configure AppScan to avoid scanning multiple pages that, from security perspective, are all the same (e.g. numerous Help pages that only differ with static text and images). You may also try running the Explore Optimization Module (from Tools > Extensions).

    Kind regards, Marek

    Hi,

9/10 times the delay after clicking pause is due to 1 of 2 things
    1) Appscan is currently waiting on a thread executing Javascript, if the target app is heavy in js this can take some time for such an execution to finish, you can disable javascript execution under explore options if it is not needed
    2) Appscan is busy parsing a large response, you should be able to identify this in the traffic log in one of the last few page.

In either case it should come back to you when it is finished, if it never does open a pmr with support and they can investigate.

    Regards,

    Thanks All.

Merek, how can I configure avoid scanning multiple pages. Especially when set of pages, though dynamic, yet comes from same parameters like item=1 , item =2 till item =100.

    Hello,

The case where the same URL comes up many times with a different set of parameters/values may be controlled using the Redundant Path Limit. For details, check AppScan Help and the Technote 1612674:
    http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21612674
Please, contact Support and open a PMR if you need assistance.

    Kind regards, Marek
