Pinned topic [Solved] Start server failed for project Error message

‏2012-12-05T21:15:27Z |
I am unable to run and deploy a Hello World application using worklight studio. I have a fresh installation of worklight studio Version: 5.0.0.3 Build ID: IWSO5003-I20120820_1520, all is running inside the same shell with Rational Application developer and ver 8.5.1 and Data Studio ver 3.1.1.

When I try to execute the command menu "Run as" -> "Build all and Deploy" I got the following error message in console:
2012-12-05 16:04:55 Activating Worklight project: pry3...
2012-12-05 16:04:56 Worklight Server started successfully on localhost:8080
2012-12-05 16:04:56 ====== Start server failed for project pry3-project-customization: Invalid class loader hierarchy. You have more than one version of 'org.apache.commons.logging.Log' visible, which is not allowed.
2012-12-05 16:04:56 Activation failed. Bundle didn't start:C:\Users\User\IBM\Worklight\workspace\pry3\bin\pry3-customization.jar

I have tried with differents JRE System Libraries (jre6 and jre7) but with the same result.
Any Ideas to solve this issue? Thanks in advance.

    Jaime,

You might take a look at the "Shell Sharing between RAD and IWS" section of this white paper:

    https://www.ibm.com/developerworks/wikis/download/attachments/113606723/mobile.dev.white.paper.pdf

It discusses the shell sharing requirements and JRE options. See if that helps.

    Please try the following:

When Eclipse is not running, go to:
    1. <path-to-your-Eclipse-folder>\configuration\org.eclipse.osgi
    2. Delete the .bundle* files
    3. Start Eclipse
    4. Build and deploy

This should help, however you also have the "more than one version of 'org.apache.commons.logging.Log" issue, which I am not certain about.
Is this a blank Eclipse installation?

I did it but I got the same errors.

Is NOT a blank Eclipse installation. I used IBM Installation Manager to Install Rational Application Developer, Rational Team Concert, Worklight Studio and IBM Data Studio.

I have installed Worklight Studio on a Mac using Eclipse Indigo without problems ... but I need it under Windows 7.

Question: Is it possible that the problem is related to the version of JRE?

        Hi
can you try something and report back:
        1. close eclipse
        2. goto your eclipse installation directorty. find the plugins directory there.
        3. backup org.apache.commons.logging_1.0.4.*.jar to some temp directory and delete it from this plugins directory (so we can revert this action)
        4. start eclipse

        report back.

          Hi again
          just to clarify my steps:
Worklight comes with Apache util logging embedded. So I try to eliminate the duplications you experienced. This 2nd logger package maybe installed by RAD or some other plugin, so I just try to leave there one jar of the Apache logger.
Nevertheless, deleting such JAR may render your eclipse environment unstable, which is why I advised you to backup the jars before trying.
In fact you may have there a more advanced Logger jar (maybe v1.1.1) but the general idea is the same.

Sorry, I've followed your instructions and it did not work.

            We solved this problem:

First, uninstall Worklight Studio using Installation Manager then, install it again using RAD and the option "Install new software" from Help Menu. Please use the following repository: http://public.dhe.ibm.com/ibmdl/export/pub/software/mobile-solutions/worklight/wdeupdate/

we've installed version 5.0.5.001 from that repository.

            Many thanks for help us.
