Pinned topic x3650 7979DLR fans running at full speed - no system

‏2012-12-04T10:48:58Z |
Hi all,

Recently buy an already used x3650 7979DLR to a company. They used it 1 year.

I've opened it once, but from this time on, fans are always running at full speed.

Tried a lot of time to remove - reinstall all the 10 fans, remove-reinstall the fan cage... With no success. Fans always at full speed all day long...

There is no OS on it yet.

Bios upgraded to 1.19

BMC upgraded to 1.47

No led on on the fans...

No Error Message on the front panel.

Tried with less fans, with an error on front panel on fans

Tried with new fans, no success...

Don't understand what i have to do to make the fans runs at normal speed... It's so loud !

Thanks in advance for your help.

Updated BMC to 1.49, after the installation was done, i was on a prompt saying eject disk and restart server. At this moment, fans was going at normal speed.

After restart, they were going max speed again and again...

Installed Win 2008 Server R2, fans still going at full speed...

    Hi,

    Thank you for your time.
Fan speed seems to be much reasonable today.

Here are the logs collected 5 minutes ago.

    Thierry,
    Hi Thierry,

where you got 3 years old DSA tool?
Could you please use fresh DSA tool for collect log.

    IBM Dynamic System Analysis (DSA)

BTW, update ALL server's software (RSAIISL, QLogic FC HBA, ServeRAID-8k, ...).

BoMC tool is good for such updates.

    IBM Bootable Media Creator (BoMC)

If he has an operating system installed (mentioned Windows 2008 R2 being installed), just use UpdateXpress to apply the updates. Version 9.21 supports the 3650:

    http://delivery04.dhe.ibm.com/sar/CMA/XSA/0381g/6/ibm_utl_uxspi_9.21_winsrvr_32-64.exe

    Select "Latest Updates" when prompted.

Here is the main UpdateXpress page (I sent the direct link before)

    http://www-947.ibm.com/support/entry/portal/docdisplay?lndocid=serv-xpress

Note 9.21 is listed second, don't use 9.28 as it doesn't support the 3650.
