Pinned topic NMON seems to have a problem seein XIV disks

‏2012-11-25T18:33:59Z |
I was looking at the raw nmon data for a system that I am working with this weekend and I noticed that many/most of the disks seemed to not be recognized.

The raw data showed:

BBBB,0014,hdisk14,32.64,Disk type NOT SCSI/SSA/SAS/FC = <hdisk14 Available 0I-08-02 MPIO 2810 XIV Disk>
BBBC,116,hdisk14:
BBBC,117,LV NAME LPs PPs DISTRIBUTION MOUNT POINT
BBBC,118,Plvsapdata18 1 1 01..00..00..00..00 /db2/SJP/sapdata18
BBBC,119,Plvsapdata4 507 507 101..102..102..102..100 /db2/SJP/sapdata4
BBBC,120,Plvsapdata36 2 2 00..00..00..00..02 /db2/SJP/sapdata36
BBBB,0015,hdisk23,32.64,Disk type NOT SCSI/SSA/SAS/FC = <hdisk23 Available 0I-08-02 MPIO 2810 XIV Disk>
BBBC,121,hdisk23:
BBBC,122,LV NAME LPs PPs DISTRIBUTION MOUNT POINT
BBBC,123,Plvsapdata18 1 1 01..00..00..00..00 /db2/SJP/sapdata18
BBBC,124,Plvsapdata94 32 32 32..00..00..00..00 /db2/SJP/sapdata94
BBBC,125,Plvsapdata102 264 264 14..00..46..102..102 /db2/SJP/sapdata102
BBBC,126,Plvsapdata12 69 69 00..69..00..00..00 /db2/SJP/sapdata12
BBBC,127,Plvsapdata64 57 57 00..01..56..00..00 /db2/SJP/sapdata64
BBBC,128,Plvsapdata62 55 55 55..00..00..00..00 /db2/SJP/sapdata62
BBBC,129,Plvsapdata76 32 32 00..32..00..00..00 /db2/SJP/sapdata76

This was true of almost all of the disks as almost all of the were XIV.
Is nmon not recognizing XIV disks?
System is
AAA,AIX,6.1.7.16
AAA,TL,07

    Hi,
Please raise a PMR on this problem.
nmon needs to include this new (newish) type of disk to its internal list.
It is a simple fix and then future AIX levels will understand th XIV a little better.

    thanks, Nigel

I am an internal so I cannot generally submit PMRs and the facility in WWQ&A is disabled.
I do not see a way to submit for this sort of thing under product usage as the LUW product do not show up at least where I can see them.

If this is an IBM internal machine somewhere there will be an IBM hardware support number for it. Your challenge will be to find it. I'm responsible for several systems and have managed to find my relevant number. Can you find who is responsible for maintaining these machines? I would be surprised if they did not have information you need.

You could try logging a call and asking them to search based on the physical location/address of the system.

Another source you might consult is the Inventory Services website using the system serial number to give you additional information.
