Pinned topic Information about creating new data with spss

Hello,

I need an information about creating new data with spss.

I have two dichotomous variables (0 No, 1 Yes). I want to build a new variable that combines both "yes" and "no."
The procedure normally used is the treatment of multiple responses but it isn’t possible to save the new variable to carry more sophisticated analysis.
However, I tried with "calculate the variable " ( from the function "transform" ) but in the new variable there is a third response coded 2.
These are the people who answered both "yes" to the first variable and "yes" to the second.
In that way, at the end I have three types of responses: those who answered "yes" only to the first variable , those who answered "yes" only to the second and those who answered "yes" to both variables.
It is not possible to obtain a new variable in a format such as multiple responses but being able to save the new variable ?

Thank you in advance for your attention,

Alessandro B
