Pinned topic difference between Guardium Disk Space and DB Space

‏2012-11-08T11:42:32Z |
Hi All,

Usually in the Main status screen on the Guardium interface we can see in the middle how much we are consuming from the disk space and how much are we full in terms of DB% , it is very confusing to see that i have 250GB free disk space and my DB is 90% full.

Can anyone help me understand what is the deference between them, and what is store in each one ?

Hi, it is confusing at the beginning. From my understanding, the DB% mainly store the audit data forwarded by S-TAP or from network monitoring. You can find out what data is being stored in the DB% by issue this command at CLI - "support show db-top-tables all". You can also issue this command at CLI to verify the available DB space - "support show db-status free | used % | m"

As for the 250GB free disk space, it is mainly used to stored the logs or reports. For example, if your archive data is failed when sending to FTP/SCP server, it will actually store the copy in the disk for you to manually download. Another example will be if you configured the Workflow to kept the reports or to forward the report to another external system.

Hope it give you some view.

Hi, the best and faster way is get IBM support to do it via Webex for you.

I think the best way is starting your system in rescue mode using Guardium installation DVD, it allows you to enter in the redhat environment and executing any linux command, i.e, df, top, and so on.

You can run "support show top memory" to show which processes using the most memory or "support show top cpu" for Processors.

You can login as admin, go to Guardium Monitor and Buffer Usage Monitor. You will get most of the information there.

    or

You can login as CLI and run "diag" than select the "System Static Report".

    Hi Javier:

I would not recommend deleting files via the rescue mode, as you may accidentally delete files necessary for the well being of the appliance.

    Thanks,
    Ravi

No for deleting, but I haven´t seen any problem for checking memory, cpu, file system usage and so on.
