Pinned topic Installation Failure (Basic Edition) - Possible privileges error ?

‏2012-10-31T07:23:29Z |
I am trying to install BigInsights Basic Edition on Ubuntu-12.04, 64-bit. I keep getting the following error even though the password provided is correct.

Failed to init dir /opt/ibm/biginsights, /var/ibm/biginsights. Depends on the selected security option, the cause could be nsubrahm missing sudo priviledge, or a wrong root password, or something else.

I have attached the required files. Please note that, I have tried all other options that appear for selecting the user ID and the result is same. Can you please guide me how to resolve this issue ?

    Hi,

    1) This error may be related to the fact that BigInsights is only supported on the following Operating systems:

Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 5.3, 5.4, 5.5, or 5.6 Advanced Platform x86-64
Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) Server 6.0 or 6.2 Advanced Platform x86-64
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) 11.0 or 11.0 SP1 x86-64
    Please see:

    2) This may not work because of OS you are using, but have you tried installing biginsights using root user when installing? It looks like your current id (nsubrahm) does not have access privilege or cannot create /opt/ibm/biginsights, /var/ibm/biginsights.

    Thanks,

    Zach

    Thank you,

    Zach

    Hi,
I did try with root user ID also. But, I had the same error. Actually, I am away from my 64-bit laptop now.
I will upload the results once I try installing onto it again.

No, installation with root ID (where it prompts for biadmin ID creation) causes the same problem.

My only other guess, this could be OS related. Please try installing on a supported plaform.

Yes, I hope to try SUSE. Hopefully, 12.0 64-bit is ok ? Or, is 11.0 a must ?

      Hi,

We do not officially support SLES 12 in BigInsights v1.4.x

It has not been tested, so we don't know if it will work or not.

      Thanks,

      Zach
