Pinned topic Moving storage arrays between DS8000 systems

‏2012-10-28T23:46:59Z |
Hi all,

i have a question regarding a possible transfer of hardware (only storage arrays) from a DS8100 system to DS8300 system. Is it possible to use storage arrays from our ds8100 system in our ds8300 system?

Can i remove the arrays and move them to our ds8300 and use them there. I haven't had any luck finding information on this topic.

with regards,

Hjalti.

Yes, you can do it as long as the donor drives are supported in the target array. I've done this twice in the past year, DS8300-DS8300 and DS8300-DS8700.

Be aware that you have to relicense any software features so you may not save a lot of money for the effort involved. You also have to pay IBM for time and materials to do the move.

I'm not sure I'd bother doing it again.
