Pinned topic Installation fails and rolls back

‏2012-10-09T06:27:21Z |
I just downloaded db2_v101_winx64_expc.exe and am trying to install on win 7 professional sp1 64bit with 4 GB Ram and 500+GB HD.

Watching the installer, it stops and rolls back right after configuring the DB2 copy.

I have looked through the logs and see no errors.

Here are a few lines of the log up to the point where rollback begins. I have tried just about all the permutations of the options the installer and configure dialogs offer, different service name, different port, domain user, system user, etc.

The least errors seems to come from the defaults, but that didn't work the first time nor the last.

I have attached the latest log...for the life of me I see NOTHING wrong, but it rolls back. The organization I am consulting with already had Oracle but I convinced them to evaluate DB2 PureXML as we are doing a SOA with WebSphere ESB and xml payloads throughout, so DB2 PureXML and Universal Services seems like a good fit...but if I can't get it installed in the next couple of days, well...bye bye.

        Hi,

Could you please provide me the install trace file. You can generate it by using -t <trace file> option while installing DB2.

        Thanks

Please try -t with setup.exe not with the package db2_v101_win64_expc.exe

            1) Download db2_v101_win64_expc.exe from IBM website
            2) Click on db2_v101_win64_expc.exe and extract the files to one location.
            3) Go to the location where you have extracted the files and call setup.exe with -t <trace file> -l <log file> option. Installer will generate the trace and log file.

            Thanks

I was going back and forth from the logs to the filesystem and registry and noticed several artifacts in the registry having to do with differnent paths in my numerous attempts to get this working. I removed all of those I could find and all the directories created in the installation process to get a clean start.

Here is the rsp for the latest (still failing) attempt.

Here is the setup log attached.

                  One thing new
1: ERROR:An error occurred while creating the instance "DB2". The return code is
"-1960". Create the instance manually using the command "db2icrt".
With so much showing "Success" is there a setup.exe switch to prevent roll back? It looks like this is not a fatal error since it says to create the instance maually using db2icrt, which of course doesn't exist after rollback.

I have forwarded the issue to Install team. I will let you know once I get the response.

                        Thanks

I have solved it and now have db2 installed and running.

I tried an anytime upgrade from professional to ultimate, no effect.
I tried all the recommendations from all sources, this forum, db2 forum, experts exchange, no effect.

The thing that worked, is I created a new partition and installed win 7 ultimate 64bit clean on that partition and then installed db2.

I suspect but cannot prove, that the anytime upgrades from home basic 64bit to professional 64bit to ultimate 64bit were not complete enough to support db2. The one thing that stands out and I believe is supported in the logs is that there was a group permission involved and after the anytime upgrade, the users and groups management didn't seem to change and while I could create the group with the management console snap it, I got the feeling it wasn't enough as I didn't see where I could fine tune permissions on that group. Many other control panel widgets are simply not there after the anytime upgrade to ultimate that are there with a clean ultimate install.

I think this is a microsoft problem not an IBM problem...surprise surprise.
