Pinned topic mmlsattr on RO GPFS fails ( GPFS v3.4)

‏2012-09-17T14:25:07Z |
Given:
GPFS v3.4 PTF 15

Task:
Verify if a directory is based/located on a GPFS or not.
For this task the mmlsattr command is used.

Problem:
In case the GPFS is mounted ro i get an error message.

Example:

$ mmlsattr  /gpfs/tmp ... /tcc1/db2/tmp: Read-only file system

and error code is 1. The answer Read-only is fine but the return code 1 gives me problems.

Qustion:
Is this working as designed ? If yes the man page should be updated to reflect this behavior
In any case - Does somebody knows a nice way to determine if a directory is based/located on a GPFS or not ?

tia & cheers
Hajo

    You may be use the technique in the GPFS Administration and Programming Reference, Chapter 10: Determining if a file system is controlled by GPFS.

    You'll first have to determine the file system in which the directory resides.
