Pinned topic GNU GDB on AIX 6.1 with IBM XL C/C++ Enterprise Edition V8.0 for AIX

I use Eclipse Indigo CDT for editing C++ files and building programs on the AIX using bespoke make files that invoke the IBM XL C/C++ compiler linker. I currently use dbx or idebug for debugging but would like to use a debugger invoked from Eclipse, can gdb be used to debug IBM XL C/C++ compiled and linked C++ programs.

Not really an answer to your question, but have you tried out Rational Developer for POWER? It's the "original" Eclipse and it's very nice when doing software development on AIX, debugging included. There's a trial available for download.

In case you do a lot of software development on AIX it will be of benefit.

Other than that I don't know of anyone actually using gdb on AIX? I know there's a gdb extension available for Eclipse, but that has only been tested on Linux as far as I know.
