I use Eclipse Indigo CDT for editing C++ files and building programs on the AIX using bespoke make files that invoke the IBM XL C/C++ compiler linker. I currently use dbx or idebug for debugging but would like to use a debugger invoked from Eclipse, can gdb be used to debug IBM XL C/C++ compiled and linked C++ programs.

It's the "original" Eclipse and it's very nice when doing software development on AIX, debugging included. There's a trial available for download.
In case you do a lot of software development on AIX it will be of benefit.
Other than that I don't know of anyone actually using gdb on AIX? I know there's a gdb extension available for Eclipse, but that has only been tested on Linux as far as I know.
