Pinned topic IBM Optim Connection with Oracle Client

‏2012-09-13T05:40:40Z |
Hi

We have Optim installed and integrated with DB2. Now,we need to integrate it with Oracle. Oracle server is in another machine. We have installed Oracle Client in the machine which has Optim installed.

While creating Directory for Oracle Client, it gives error that "Please make sure Oracle client is installed properly".

Thanks in advance.

    Hi,

Can you please verify in your Optim client machine whether Oracle client ( ORACLE_HOME )variables are set properly
    Environment Variables --> System Variables
    ORACLE_HOME=<Oracle client path>
    and
PATH variable should also contain %ORACLE_HOME%\bin

    e.g PATH=......;C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\client_1\bin;

You have to make an entry in TNSNAMES.ORA with your Oracle Server TNS entry.

You should be able to launch SQLPLUS and TNSPING <TNS connection>.

If these are successful then Optim should be able to connect Oracle.
BTW which Oracle client and Server version you are having ?

    Thanks,

    Srinivas

    Hi

We are downloading the 32 bit Oracle Client.

We shall try with that and will respond if we get any errors in it.

    Thanks.

    Hi..

We have installed 32 bit Oracle client and configured in Optim.

We are able to create a directory and DB alias for the Oracle tables. But when we are connecting using the oracle directory which we created, Optim is going to a not responding mode.

    Please help in this regard.

    Thanks in advance...

try modify path in oracle.key file
Please find the oracle key file in the attachment and we usehome2 as in the snap attached.

Kindly let us know, if we modify the file to home2 and restart and check.

Anything else needs to be done?

    Kindly help us.

    Hi,

    1) Are you able to connect using Optim client without Optim server?
    2) If you are able to connect using Optim client having problem when you are trying to connect to Optim server, then you may have to do "Merge Current User" using Optim server settings>Connection Tab.
    3) If you are not able to connect using Optim client, then please attach PR0TOOL.* trace file

    Thanks,
    Tulasi

We have completed merge current user, even after that it goes to a not responding mode(hanging).

we are able to connect using "local" server to oracle database and carry out loads as well.

Please find the PROTOOL trace file in the attachment.

    Hello:

Hope things are well. The trace that you sent is in regards to Browsing an Extract File. Is that the task that you were running
at the time when you see the 'hang'? I am assuming by the thread that you are using an Optim server also? If so, can you take a look
at the Optim server related directories and see if any traces were produced? Send any traces that you find.

    Thanks,
    Kevin

    Hi,

Since you are able to connect using Optim client, I think there is some problem in the Optim server configuration.
    1) Verify server configuration by walking through all the table of Optim Server Settings
    2) Start Optim server and verify whether it is running or not
    3) Verify Optim client configuration whether optim server name, IP and end point

Hanging problem not related to database connectivity but Optim client not able to connect Optim server.

    Thanks,
    Tulasi

Thanks a lot for your response.

We didnt face any issue while we are accessing DB2,but this hanging problem is with oracle only .
we are able to access to oracle seperately and oracle client as LOCAL through optim but not the remote one.
Currently we are looking to the points you have mentioned.

    Thanks

    Hi again:

I have a couple of questions and comments:

    1) I assume that you have the Oracle client software installed on the machine where the Optim server is running also? Remember when you connect to the
Optim server the database connection will be done from there.

    2) Have you tried to run a 'batch' pr0cmnd process directly on the server? Does this work?

    3) When you connect from the GUI (i.e. type the server name in the request as opposed to Local), does Optim respond and actually connect, at which
point you can 'run' the request?

    4) Are any traces produced on the machine where the Optim server is installed when the 'hang' process occurs. They may go far to determine what is going on.

    Thank you,
    Kevin
