There's several different methodologies in using Optim against AS400 systems. Are you doing Archiving/Data growth? or Decom or TDM/DP.

Traditionally we've used DB2 Federation Server and created Nicknames for the Loogical and Physical files.

Let us know specifics and maybe we can make a better recommendation

Currently we are looking at using Optim on iSeries and are only aware of using federation server. What other options are available for TDM?

        1. Use export utility to export physical files
        2. import into temp relational staging table
        3. perform Optim tasks
        4. export results and import back into iSeries

Yeah, Federation Server seems to be the answer, but it still not perfect because if you are doing the following tasks:

      1. Use Discovery to obtain the tables to be masked and exporting them to Optim Designer. The connection is accomplished with jt400.
      2. In Optim Designer I create Extract/mask and Insert Optim Distributed Services with those exported files.
      3. The final step is executing those Optim services by exporting them to Optim Directory Proyect which require the as400 db alias properly configured.

The problem is that I have to create the correct nicknames in the federation server for each table discovered.

      Sorry for my poor english.

        Hi ,

I am new to Optim and currently working for TDM project. We have AS400 application and backend data base is DB2 , In this case can Optim directly connect to DB2 data base through ODBC or DB2 drivers to create Alias in Optim? , Why we need to use Federation server? and also why we need to use ISeries? Can any one please advise me.

In my project Optim is installed in mid-rage.

        Thanks,
        Naveen P
