Pinned topic Which fix pack for Mac Lion/Indigo? What method?

‏2012-08-22T14:27:28Z |
Current Installation: Mac OS X Lion, Eclipse Indigo, WL 5.0.0.0 Consumer (CI88REN image) applied as install update,
then ADT 20 dev tools install update
(Not sure this is correctly working install at this point, either.)

FixPackCentral has a 5.0.0.2 "kit" which has three zips:
Fix results Select Number Description Release date
1. fix pack: 5.0.0-IMF-WCE-Studio-Eclipse-FP002
IBM Worklight Studio for Worklight Consumer Edition version 5.0.0.2 Eclipse update site
Jul 17, 2012
2. fix pack: 5.0.0-IMF-WCE-Studio-FP002
IBM Worklight Studio for Worklight Consumer Edition version 5.0.0.2 update pack
Jul 17, 2012
3. fix pack: 5.0.0-IMF-WCE-Server-FP002
IBM Worklight Server for IBM Worklight Consumer Edition version 5.0.0.2 update pack
Jul 16, 2012

Which one or all three do I install the update from? Should I uninstall 5.0.0.0 first?

Alan

The Eclipse update site is the one you want.

Another option is just to install Worklight tools from the Eclipse Marketplace. That way you will get the latest when you install and updates can be downloaded and installed right in Eclipse.

    Thanks for the quick reply.

You are saying I have two options:
    1) Help->install update from the first package "Eclipse update site"
    or
    2) Uninstall WL (or deeper, delete /Applications/eclipse/ ?)
Help->install new from the devworks WL download http:// ... mobile-solutions/worklight/wdeupdate
(the url given after filling out the download registration info)

Sorry - I'm IBM but don't recognize "MarketPlace", (IBM sometimes stands for "Its been moved")

      1) correct

      2) That is an option too

      3) Help -> Eclipse Marketplace (and then just search for Worklight) You can install the Android tools from the marketplace too.

I install things way too much and I tend to just delete the eclipse directory and unzip a fresh copy instead of trying to uninstall anything. I've never had a problem I can point to because of eclipse not uninstalling something correctly, but there are warnings out there that sometimes it causes problems, so I just avoid it. Fortunately, all I have installed is Indigo + Worklight + RTC + ADT which I can build from scratch in no time.

    Alan,

You mentioned both the consumer edition, but also the developerWorks download site, and they are not the same. Perhaps I can clarify a bit.

    Worklight has three editions:

    (A) Developer Edition - free
    (B) Consumer Edition - paid
    (C) Enterprise edition - paid
If you originally installed from the "devworks WL download" site then you
have the free Developer Edition (A) installed and you should update thru
    eclipse as described above.
If you installed (B) or (C) then you should apply fixpacks via FixCentral.

    Side note:

In Eclipse you can also set your preferences to automatically update:

    Window -> Preferences -> Install/Update -> Automatic Updates
then check the box next to "Automatically find new updates and notify me"

Outside of some of the IDE button placements and maybe marketplace/no marketplace, is the actual IDE any different. I use both the developers edition on a MAC and the Enterprise Edition on the Windows. Although I know it is more IBM specific, it seems to be exactly the same. However, I tend to have more errors with the IBM Worklight Studio then the developers direct Eclipse plug in. I am thinking of just switching to the Eclipse Plugin, but I want to make sure to see if there is anything special about the Enterprise version of the IDE.

The Developer Edition plugin and Enterprise IDE are very similar, and can both be used to develop a Worklight Application. The convenience of the Enterprise option is how its already preconfigured and ready to use, where the Developer edition plugin must be installed on an existing install of eclipse.

          Hope this answers your question,
