Pinned topic Is it possible to define an alert to detect OOM errors?

‏2012-08-10T11:04:53Z |
Hello,

I am wondering whether it is possible to monitorize, trough the MS console, OOM errors/exceptions that the AppServers are reporting.

I have tried to define a couple of alerts by using Traps, but no one have raised since then, and OOMerrors and OOMexceptions still appear in their corresponding SystemOut.log. So, I haven't managed to create them properly.

The traps I defined were as follows:

  • an Application Trap of type "Uncaught Exceptions"
specify all the requests = * and in Error Class = OutOfMemoryException

  • an Application Trap of type "Uncaught Exceptions"
specify all the requests = * and in Error Class = OutOfMemoryError

I was told by an "ITCAM for AD/SOA L2 Staff Software Engineer" that OutOfMemory errors can be counted just as Resource Traps, not Application Traps. But, a Resource Trap can only be defined as a generic trap, getting a count of the number of Uncaught Exceptions (including OOM), with no details about the specific exception occurred.

Any help will be welcomed.

Regards,
Javier Diez.
