Based on the information provided, it sounds like you downloaded a WebSphere Application Server v8.5 product repository. This data (all three archives) needs to be unpacked to a common directory location, such as (c:\IBM\repositories\WebSphere).

You also will need to download and install IBM Installation Manager. Starting with WebSphere Application Server v8.0, Installation Manager became the primary installation and update tool for WebSphere Application Server. After installing Installation Manager, start it up and go to the preferences. The first preference is Repositories. On this panel, add the location where the other archive files were unpacked and select the repository.config file. Next, exit from the preferences and return to the main Installation Manager launchpad.

On the launchpad, choose the Install option. The next panel should allow you to choose to install the edition of the WebSphere Application Server v8.5 Trial which you downloaded and unpacked to your machine.

If you download other offering repository archives (such as the IBM HTTP Server, Web Server Plug-ins for WebSphere Application Server, and WebSphere Customization Toolbox), then you can unpack those repositories to the same root location and add each of their repositories to the Repositories preferences of Installation Manager to install them too.

If you do not want to download the repository archives and unpack them to your own machine, the same repositories are already hosted on IBM servers. In this scenario, all you need to do is install Installation Manager and then add the URLs to the IBM hosted repositories to be able to install the trial products. The IBM hosted repositories are automatically added to Installation Manager if you go through the WebSphere trials website and download and install that copy of the Installation Manager.

Note that if you already installed Installation Manager to your machine, you still have to download the Installation Manager again and start its installation to automatically get the repositories added to the instance of Installation Manager that is already installed. The installer for Installation Manager will not install multiple copies of itself to your machine; instead it will detect the existing Installation Manager and make configuration changes or updates to that copy of the Installation Manager.

More installation information an a step-by-step guide is available in the WebSphere Application Server Information Center:

      Hi Scott,

I've just downloaded the Installation Manager 1.5.2 with the Websphere 8.5 but it does not work. Before installing IM, it says "the com.ibm.websphere.BASETRIAL.v85 packsge specified in install.xml file cannot be foud".
I've realiced that the url https://www-912.ibm.com/software/repositorymanager/V85WASBASETrial returns Error 404: SRVE0190E: File not found: /V85WASBASETrial
I've managed to intall the Installation Manager 1.5.2 but without having the correct repository i can't install Websphere 8.5 trial.

It is very important for me as we're testing an application over WAS 8.5 to recommend it to a client. COuld you please provide the correct repository or the url to download a proper Installation Manager with Websphere 8.5?

      Kindest regards.

I was just able to confirm that the WAS v8.5 trial server is up and running. I was able to successfully authenticate with the repository server and access the data for WAS Base v8.5 Trial edition.

However, sometimes the servers can be particular.
Try adding "repository.config" to the end of the URL. For example:
        https://www.ibm.com/software/repositorymanager/V85WASBASETrial/repository.config

If you put this URL into a web browser, you should get a prompt for your IBM.com authentication credentials. But the URL is really intended to be used by IBM Installation Manager.

I've seen this happen if you don't have all required information filled out in your IBM profile. To check, go to this link:

          https://www.ibm.com/account/profile/us?page=regfaqhelp

Sign in with your IBM id, and then select "My IBM profile" from the menu on the left. Any missing required fields will be flagged.

            Hi,

I am also getting the same error which is :-

"the com.ibm.websphere.BASETRIAL.v85 packsge specified in install.xml file cannot be found".

I just checked that the machine, I am using for installation does not have internet access. I am trying to get the internet access.

Will the issue get resolved then ?

or does it require me to add fields to my IBM profile or will i need to use https://www.ibm.com/software/repositorymanager/V85WASBASETrial/repository.config url.
If so, then where do i make changes to add this URL ?

            Regards
            Ritesh

It is quite likely that the problem will be resolved once you have internet access. The Installation Manager that you downloaded is configured to search the IBM-hosted web-based repository for the product download. If it cannot connect, then it will fail as you have seen.

Which trial edition of WebSphere Application Server did you install? Support for clusters is provided only in the Network Deployment Edition of WebSphere Application Server.

@Scott_Johnston I successfully installed the applications but I'm having error in syncing it with Eclipse (used Indigo and Galileo already). Check the attachment below to see the error on Eclipse when installing the server. Please help.
