New install of DS-4700 Model 70, Bladecenter-S, HS21, Qlogic 4GB, Brocade switch, out of band management. If I connect to the DS4700 controllers with no drives, the unit is responsive. I cannot change any settings, but I am able to dump the configuration. If I install any of the 6 146GB/15K drives (FRU 40K 6823) then the seven segment displays on the controllers both go to H.7 and the DS4700 is unresponsive to the Manager. However, I can still ping the controllers. I can scan from the qlogic FCA in the HS21 and it finds the enclosure. Same for the switch using the internal WEB server. One last thing. I set up reservations in my DHCP server, but the DS4700 only responds to the factory static addresses. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: DS4700 Un-Responsive2012-08-02T21:15:06Z in response to Novikov_AlexanderUsing Brocade 26K5620 Entry FC Switch. For the DS Data, I pulled the drives since I cannot connect after DS4700 boots with drives.

Re: DS4700 Un-Responsive2012-08-03T15:46:42Z in response to edhortonHi Edwin,
try Link Rate Switch set to 2 Gbps position and power on with on HDD, if not helped power off and swith back to 4 Gbps and check status.
If not helped, remove controller B and power on with one HDD. Then try with only controller B and another HDD.
Re: DS4700 Un-Responsive2012-08-03T23:35:02Z in response to Novikov_AlexanderI tried what you suggested, but with the same result. To troubleshoot, I monitored the serial output from the controller. When I boot with a drive, it says I am running the incorrect firmware and should use 7.36.xx to avoid data loss. I assume this is because the disks for this new install were not wiped clean. However, if I boot with a disk in the enclosure, I cannot get into storage manager to initialize the disks. Is there another way to do this? Also, I tried to get into the service shell via serial port and I get to the point where it asks for my password but it does not like any of the suggest default passwords such as "infinity", "y2llojp" or "wy3oo&w4". Is there any way to restore the password to factory default, or is it some other standard password? I had hoped to downgrade from the present 7.6 firmware. I do not have 7.36 anyway, only 6.60 and 7.60, the two on the IBM site. I don't care about any existing data, but short of a direct connection to an expansion unit, which I don't have, any way to initialize the drives, so the current firmware release is not a problem? Thanks.
Re: DS4700 Un-Responsive2012-08-05T16:11:46Z in response to edhortonAn update. After looking at this forum, I saw that the proper way to access the shell prompt with firmware 7 was to (using Hyperterm):
Control/Break, Control/Break (again to set Baud Rate), space (within 5 seconds), Control/Break (prompts for "S"), hit Escape (not "S") and this takes you to the login. The defaults username: shellUsr password: wy3oo&w4 allow me to access the shell. I then downgraded the firmware on both controllers to 6.60 followed by a sysWipe on both controllers.
Now I am able to configure the DS4700. Also the default "infiniti" password works. The only problem left is that I lost my advanced features as warned before the sysWipe. Do you know of any way to restore the features? Lastly, I tried to upgrade to the latest firmware in DS Manager 10, but I get a data validation error, contact customer support. I guess I don't know exactly what went wrong, but I think I am closer.
Re: DS4700 Un-Responsive2012-08-05T18:58:33Z in response to edhortonOne more update. I had a controller that acted strange after the downgrade, one ethernet port would ping but not be available in DS manager. Anyway, I re-loaded the firmware on that controller, Wiped and now the unit is 100%. No errors, all features back and even updated to the latest firmware with DS Manager 10.
I hope any of this may be helpful to anyone else having a similar problem.
