Pinned topic What are the effects of Focal Point Clustering ?

Clustering RFP : if RFP clustering is activated, what are the impacts on memory consumption on the different Tomcat Nodes ?
  • What are the underlying mechanisms : copy of user sessions in memory on all RFP instances ?
  • I plan to use this mode but is it indicated ?

Web SSO : what are the requirements at customer site ?

Does RFP detects the HTTP header and match the user id with a referenced user in its own base and allow the users to be directly and transparently authenticated?

    Clustering RFP

Q.If RFP clustering is activated, what are the impacts on memory consumption on the different Tomcat Nodes ?
Ans: None. or very small.Clustering should be used where there is a high CPU load of the jvm process. This is highly unlikely - not even Ericsson/NSN have CPU starvation. NSN is 30% CPU load at worst. But of course, if you have a clever load balancer one node can crash and you can continue, but starting a FP node are not that slow, 10 mins tops. For perfomance, database optimizations/clustering has a much bigger impact.

    Q. What are the underlying mechanisms : copy of user sessions in memory on all RFP instances ?
Ans: No. Sticky sessions are used. Any user logged in on a node that goes down will be thrown to the login page (load balancer setting). User needs to login again.

    Web SSO
    Q. What are the requirements at customer site ?
Ans: Write at least one http header (to every page request) that corresponds to the Focal Point login name. Name of header is configurable. Any access to Focal Point MUST go either through the SSO proxy or a cleaning proxy that removes the authentication headers, otherwise its easy to spoof a login.

    Q. Does RFP detects the HTTP header and match the user id with a referenced user in its own base and allow the users to be directly and transparently authenticated? Ans: Yes.
