Pinned topic Installing RAD on Mac OS X

‏2012-07-09T14:54:01Z |
Hey,

I cannot find instructions on how to install RAD on Mac OS, but I know for a fact I have seen videos of people using RAD on Mac. All the downloads I can find are either Linux or Windows.

I looked on Google for awhile for 'Mac Installation manager' and 'mac rational application developer' but couldn't find anything that works.

Any ideas?

Thanks.
Andy

    Hello,

Rational Application Developer is not supported on the Mac platform so you won't find any documentation from IBM on installing on this platform. Do you know if the other people you were referring to are using the IBM WebSphere Application Server Developer Tools package? This is supported on the Mac OS X platform.

Some of the videos were actually done on IBM WebSphere Application Server Developer Tools (as mentioned above). IBM WebSphere Application Server Developer Tools can only be installed on Mac using the eclipse update site (p2 installation). Installation Manger is not supported on Mac.

You can install the new version RAD 9.0, but you must install first the IBM Installation Manager version 1.6.3 or better yet: 1.6.3.1 as privileged user of course.

Then use the installation manager to install the software as usual with some IBM products.

    Cheers,

Apple Macs now out number PC purchases and IBM will be stupid to not support RAD 9.x for i on the Mac. If they can do it for the RAD 9.0 why not RAD 9.x  for i! IBM does enjoy making money why pass up on this market. The lads at Zend did it for Zend Server!

    Hello,

RDi 9.0.x is also supported on Mac OS X 10.7 as per the system requirements page.

    Hello,

Here is a link to a video that shows how to install RAD.

    Link: http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/ieduasst/rtnv1r0/index.jsp?topic=/com.ibm.iea.rad_v8/rad/8.0/Installation/rad_install/rad_install_viewlet_swf.html

Please note that the video assumes you have IBM Installation Manager already installed on your system. Here are links to an IM download page and installation instructions.

    Download IM: http://www-933.ibm.com/support/fixcentral/swg/selectFixes?parent=ibm~Rational&product=ibm/Rational/IBM+Installation+Manager&release=1.7.0.0&platform=All&function=all

    Install IM: http://pic.dhe.ibm.com/infocenter/install/v1r6/index.jsp?topic=%2Fcom.ibm.cic.agent.ui.doc%2Ftopics%2Ft_install_im.html

    Hope this helps!

    Hello,

Just to correct myself in the previous post, RAD 9.x is available on the Mac OS but BasevalM-Guy is right in saying that RDi 9.x is not available as per the system requirements page. I realized I had accidentally looked over the RAD system requirements page and not the RDi one, woops!

    Sorry if that confused anyone!
