Pinned topic How to drag and drop definition object into workspace as a line

‏2012-07-06T19:00:03Z |
Is there a way to drag and drop a definition oject from the explorer into the workspace to depict as a generic line symbol?

One of the reasons why I want to do this is because when I render a line symbol between two objects, I dont see the "Choices" option in the definition dialog. I don't want to create a new definition, I just want to associate the newly rendered line to an existing definition.

    figured it out, must represent the line as a 'node'

    Symbol "Conduit Line"
    {
    REPRESENTS NODE "Conduit Line"
    DEPICT LIKE "Generic Line"
    ASSIGN TO...
    }

    If you do that then you don't get populated properties for the connections, and you cannot restrict what connections can be made, both of which you can do with explicit relationship lines.
    If you use representational consistency as it is intended, the idea is that if a definition already exists that can be represented by a line on the diagram then it will be added on the next refresh action, and any lines you don't want to be shown can be requested to be hidden.
