Pinned topic Can an index be created without taking an outage?

‏2012-06-21T21:39:39Z |
Hi,

I have a disk based table in solidDB and I wish to create an index:

CREATE INDEX DBINST1.ATH.LOGGING_HISTORY_IX1
ON DBINST1.ATH.ATH_COMMON_LOGGING_HISTORY
(SERVICE_ID DESC,
"DATE" DESC,
FAIL_POINT DESC);

This is going into our production server, so to take onlines down and reroute traffic will take a lot of work. Can I simply run the create index, following by a commit to build it? I'm assuming solidDB will need to take an exclusive lock on the table. For this table, users will be updating, deleting and selecting.

We are not using HSB.

Thanks, Tom

    Hi Tom,

    Yes, you can just create the index. Users trying to write into that table will be blocked but you can still create the index.
