Pinned topic http 502 errors in the access_log

‏2012-05-30T10:55:48Z |
Running HTTP Server 6.1 sp17 on AIX 5.3

We have iPhones that synchronize theirs mail and calenders against our Exchange 2007(owa).
The users complain sometimes that the sync doesn't work between the iPhone and the Exchange server(owa).

I got a lot of this in the access_log
webmail.xxx.yy 95.199.1.57 - - 30/May/2012:12:44:14 +0200 "POST /Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync?User=user1&DeviceId=Appl6Q11186UA4S&DeviceType=iPhone&Cmd=Sync HTTP/1.1" 502 1337 "Apple-iPhone3C1/807.4"

And these in the error_log
Wed May 30 12:54:25 2012 error http://client 95.199.148.86 proxy: error reading status line from remote server owa.xxx.yyy.zz
Wed May 30 12:54:25 2012 error http://client 95.199.148.86 proxy: Error reading from remote server returned by /Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync
Can it be that we have an old version of HTTP Server? It's only the owa that having the problems, other addresses works fine.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

//Fredric

If you're running IHS as a reverse proxy, you really want at least V7 + recent maintenance, then check out the Apache documentation for other flags available to you to tweak the behavior.

    Hi Eric,
    thanks for the the reply.
Yes, we use the IHS as a reverse proxy. I know that we should upgrade to v7/8, but we are going to migrate to a TMG :-( ,they have talk about it for several years. It has worked fine until we started to sync the iPhones.

What other flags are you talking about? Aany example?

    Thanks!

      thinking of e.g. proxy-initial-not-pooled http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2/env.html

    Hi,

I have added "SetEnv proxy-initial-not-pooled 1" and changed the KeepAliveTimeout from 15 to 30.
    The problem is still unsolved.

If this is easily recreated, can you run with logLevel debug and post the log. Also check if the mack-end is closing connections prematurely or firewall and/or other security device is closing connections.

you level of IHS doesn't do anything with proxy-initial-not-pooled.
