Pinned topic Updating 2.2.0.0 to 2.2.1.1FP25

‏2012-05-08T17:54:25Z |
Hello everyone,

I'm trying to work through my first VIO server software update here. I have a ticket open with IBM, but they aren't being too helpful. I've downloaded the 2.2.1.1FP25 updates. They come in the form of six ISO image files. I also had IBM ship me the software, and it came as six CDs.

The install instructions in the README are not clear. There are syntax errors in the examples and there is no real detail on what to do with the six CDs / ISO files.

I tried applying the updates from each of the 6 CDs, in order, one at a time. That doesn't seem to have helped. The ioslevel command still returns 2.2.0.0. I also tried copying all six CDs into one common root directory and updating from there. That didn't work either.

I'd greatly appreciate any assistance.

If it ask for all 6 CD's and then ends, you need to run:

    shutdown -restart
    license -accept
ioslevel - If not showing newest version then try:
    updateios -commit

Check out FP24's for better details: http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=isg400000259

    The normal procedure is:

    updateios -commit
updateios -accept - install -dev /dev/cd0 (or wherever you media or files are located)

This will run through the media, give you a summary of what's going to be updated and then ask you if you want to continue.

When it is complete (20-40 mins I'd guess, it depends on lots of factors)

    shutdown -restart

Sign back in when it's IPL'd

It will ask you to accept the licenses so press a

    Now enter license -accept

    ioslevel

This should show you your new release level.

Problem solved. I just downloaded the individual files from fixcentral and then used updateios. My trouble was having no idea how to apply the updates from the CDs that IBM had shipped to me previously. Well, maybe I had some idea, but this is 2012 and I was pretty insulted at the idea of running down to the data centre 6 times to swap discs.
