Pinned topic GPFS 3.3 mount 3.3 and 3.4 volume

‏2012-05-08T03:04:21Z |
Hello,

All cluster node is running: AIX 6.1, San disk: EMC

I've an existing environment, 2 nodes GPFS cluster, running 3.3, and there is a single node DR GPFS 3.3 cluster server. The DR GPFS server perform the snapshot thru san storage technique daily, it mounts the san snapshot with mmstartup -a to perform backup, it will release the snapshot after backup complete.

Now, there is a new 2 nodes GPFS cluster, running 3.4, the customer wants the existing single node DR GPFS 3.3 cluster mount the new GPFS 3.4 environment.

I want to have the professional opinion from your guys -- Does it work? Anyone try this configuration before? How the DR server handles the 3.3 and 3.4 volume mount from different environment? Thanks

    Supplementary:

The DR GPFS 3.3 cluster node take the snapshot from existing GPFS 3.3 cluster, and then mount the snapshot , import the filesystem, and perform backup on DR GPFS 3.3 server now.

The DR GPFS 3.3 will perform same action to the new implement GPFS 3.4 cluster daily.

    Thanks

As long as the main cluster running 3.4 does not do a mmchfs $fsname -V, the filesystem version will stay at 3.3, so the DR node running 3.3 can mount the flashcopy.

    Hello,

How to import the filesystems configuration on DR server, cause there are 2 x GPFS cluster?

I mount the existing GPFS 3.3 cluster snapshot thru mmstartup -a after recognized the san disk volume on DR cluster server.

If there is an additional GPFS 3.4 cluster snapshot, how can I handle the additional filesystem from GPFS3.4 cluster? I knew there is a file: mmsdrfs under /var/mmfs/gen, which remains the filesystem, disk label related information, when the cluster node startup, it will call the file and then mount the mmfs filesystem.

Should I need to rename the existing GPFS3.3 file (mmsdrfs), and then copy the GPFS3.4 mmsdrfs file to /var/mmfs/gen, and then start up the cluster by mmstartup -a to handle different GPFS cluster filesystem configuration? Thanks
