Pinned topic Does the "group by" operator push the aggregation down to the source db?

‏2012-05-04T17:52:36Z |
Hi folks,

I'd like to know if the aggregation work done by the "group by" operator takes place in the source database where the source dat resides or in the ISW server?

My source data table has millions of rows that I don't want to ship on the network. The Info Center doc doesn't say anything on this topic but I'd like to know one way or another before spending time to implement this operator.

Thanks in advance,

Gene

    hi Genek,
If you connect a data source operator with group by operator directly, yes, the group by operation is accomplished in the source data server. Besides the group by operator, you can also specify the where condition and select list for the data source operator to restrict the data transferred to network.
