I'm setting up a script to run a mksysb to a nim server.
I run mksysb -i /mnt/my_system_name.mksysb . . . . . and it just sits there and does nothing.
If I run smitty mksysb and enter the equivalent parameters it runs.
Any reason why mksysb works from smitty but not from ksh?

Re: mksysb not running2012-04-18T13:31:55Z in response to robinsgukCurious, is /mnt local or nfs on these lpar(s)? any permissions/space issue on /mnt? Although I would think it would timeout fail or spit some error and not just sit there as you said. Did you try directing the file to any other location by any chance?
Re: mksysb not running2012-04-18T13:36:33Z in response to sajjadhashimiYeah tried it to local file and remote.
I ran khs -x mksysb -i -v /tmp/mksysb/test and got:
+ /usr/bin/dspmsg -s 1 mksysb.cat 4 0512-007 %s: Abnormal program termination. mksysb
+ trap cleanup_m 4 "0512-007 mksysb: Abnormal program termination." 1 2 15
+ + umask
+ umask 077
+ /usr/bin/mkdir /tmp/mksysb.9240576
+ [ 0 -ne 0 ]
+ umask 027
+ rootvg = rootvg
+ http:// -s /bosinst.data
+ http:// -e /save_bosinst.data_file
+ http:// ! -s /bosinst.data
+ yes = yes
It just sticks there.
Re: mksysb not running2012-04-18T15:32:19Z in response to robinsgukOdd. Can you try running with -A flag?
When I run a mksysb like you from command line vs. smitty (btw both work for me), I noticed smitty adds -A flag, when I pick the defaults. Do shift+F6 to see the command. And, heres some links with more info;
Re: mksysb not running2012-04-18T15:39:15Z in response to sajjadhashimiJust tried that and . . . . no different.
I tried the same on my NIM server and it works a treat.
The only difference is that on the servers where it DOESN'T work from the CLI I su - in as root as root is restricted from logging on at a terminal.
On my NIM server root login as permitted.

Re: mksysb not running2012-04-18T15:37:24Z in response to robinsgukNot sure if this is it but for what it's worth if the /mnt is NFS mounted you have a permission issue on the host where it really lives. The question was asked if it was NFS but I didn't see that you answered that. Maybe I missed it.
Just check to be sure if it is. Can't hurt.
I run into this alot with my NIM clients because I forget to change permissions on my NIM software dirs.
