Pinned topic AIX Real time bandwith monitoring

‏2012-04-14T19:34:37Z |
Hi!

I'm interested on monitoring every minute the bandwith that is being used on my LPARs, unfortunatelly I have not found any tool that does this or any thread in the forum refering to this. The best approach that I had read is with entstat.
Tx is

en=en0; x1=`entstat $en | grep Bytes`; sleep 2; x2=`entstat $en | grep Bytes`; echo `echo $x2 | awk
'{print "(" $2 "-" }'``echo $x1 | awk
'{print $2 ")/5/1024"}'` | bc -l

Rx is

en=en0; x1=`entstat $en | grep Bytes`; sleep 2; x2=`entstat $en | grep Bytes`; echo `echo $x2 | awk
'{print "(" $4 "-" }'``echo $x1 | awk
'{print $4 ")/5/1024"}'` | bc -l

Any other solution more elegant solution at sight?

Thanks in advance!

    Y '{print $2 ")/5/1024 here divided by 5, i think it should be divided by 2 as u r using sleep 2 ?
    If i m wrong please correct me ...

    topas main panel should show the metrics that you wanted. You have to press 'n' twice to see per interface statistics.

    There are other ways to collect these statistics as well. But it depends on whether you want it for displaying or for logging.

    If you want to log these statistics, then you can use SpmiLogger. It is available as a sample program in /usr/samples/perfagent/tools.
