Pinned topic Can we hide the "Reference Documents" tab?

‏2012-04-13T19:49:59Z |
We'd like to hide this tab, because we are creating three new separate tabs called "SOP", "Control Documents", and "Support Documents". The alternative was to hide the "Reference Documents" hyperlink section, but can't seem to do that either.

    As far as I know, you will have to hide the "Reference Documents" property in the References chapter. This will hide the tab. You have to do this for each definition you want to hide the tab on.

      Thank you. I was creating a Chapter called "Reference Documents" and and trying to make that invisible. However, when I took that away and replaced it with "Reference Documents" {INVISIBLE} - the chapter and all went away.

      Before, I also tried adding additional properties under the "Reference Document" chapter, but the tool created a redundant chapter called "Reference Document" and put the properties there. This sometimes happens when trying to add things to the "Introduction" chapters as well.

        I experienced the same thing on the Reference tab, but I must have had something wrong with the syntax. This seems to work OK for me now.

        I have included the customizations below that we have made for storing reference document links. We also wanted to 'type' the references so we could publish them separately and I wanted to be able to name the reference link (the anchor text in SA Publisher), so we created a new definition for our references and hid the default Reference Documents property.

        CHAPTER "Reference Documents"
        PROPERTY "Reference Documents" { INVISIBLE }

        GROUP "Reference Links"
        {
        LAYOUT { COLS 2 ALIGN OVER }
        PROPERTY "MRC Reference Policies"
        {
        LABEL "Policies"
        EDIT LISTOF "MRC Reference Document" WHERE "Reference Type" = "Policy"
        LENGTH 1200
        }
        PROPERTY "MRC Reference Forms"
        {
        LABEL "eForms"
        EDIT LISTOF "MRC Reference Document" WHERE "Reference Type" = "eForm"
        LENGTH 1200
        }
        PROPERTY "MRC Reference Other"
        {
        LABEL "Other References"
        EDIT LISTOF "MRC Reference Document" WHERE "Reference Type" = "Other"
        LENGTH 1200
        }
        }

          I forgot to say that the new definition we created then has the URL to the actual document, form, webpage, or whatever it happens to be.

      I've tried making the "Links" property/chapter invisible using the same approach - but to no avail.

        What version are you on? I think I have seen this chapter in 11.4.1, but we are on 11.4 so I haven't messed with this one yet.

          Phil - Thanks, we are using 11.4.1. The "Links" chapter did show up in this version. It is all greyed out and unusable. It might have something to do with the "Object Link" object - but havent tested it out.

          On a similar topic, I'm trying to access the "Reference Document" property of an object in a Macro. It is listed in the next post/thread. Have you done that before?

            I just submitted a PMR today on how to remove the Link chapter from every definition type without having to go to every one individually and put INVISIBLE on the property. You said that didn't work anyway, right? The tech support person didn't know what that the Link property was read-only and useless.

            If I understand correctly, the link is for their new integration with external systems feature that is coming in a future release. Why they put in something non-functional in a release that doesn't have that feature is beyond me, other than the SA developers being the SA developers and not considering the impact on their clients. It's impacting my training materials. Explaining away another thing that the users are not supposed to use. In our cases, Reference Documents is another thing that we had already come up with a solution for and don't use this property either (for the most part).

              Yeahup - it is frustrating when we can't customize that which is supposed to be customizable. We can always add a bunch of miscellaneous tabs to push the 'links' tab farther to the right until it is out of the initial definition dialog altogether. (a joke). Though, I do like the idea of being able to link an object to another system (e.g., an IT inventory system), but it should be invisibly disabled until they are ready for us to use it. There are times when we wish we could be on their development team to lend our perspectives.

                You can submit RFEs at this link which allows you to provide input on ways to improve the product:
                http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/rfe/?BRAND_ID=1
                Allows you to submit and vote on other RFEs and monitor the polls. The Rational SA product team use this information as a basis for regular version planning.

                They said the only way to hide the Links tab is to make the Links property invisible. As you already tried, it didn't work. The tech support person didn't know what the Links property was for. I think I picked up the information about it being for linking to external systems from an SA User Group meeting.

                The property name to hide the links property is OSLCLink.

                So this works. PROPERTY "OSLCLink" { INVISIBLE }
