Pinned topic expand DS4800 foreign used drives

‏2012-03-21T15:58:06Z |
Hello,

I try to expand the storage capacity of my older DS4800 with used drives but Recovery Guru says "Multiple Arrays Refer to Foreign Drive (Scenario 2)" error, event log says " Incompatible drive due to invalid configuration on drive", Initialize command says "Error 410 - A drive operation cannot be performed because the state of the drive is inappropriate for the requested operation.

I know that those drives are from different array and the different RAID configuration is on it. Its not problem, drives can be deleted/initialized but how ?

Firmware version: 07.60.28.00
ESM Firmware version: 98D0
Storage Manager: 10.77.G5.28

Thanks for help,

Lukas

    Hi Lukas,

lets try Import function to import the old array configuration from this HDD and place the HDD online (then delete this array).

"With controller firmware level 7.xx or later and Storage Manager software version 10.xx or later, after you insert all of the drives, import the array, using the Import Array function, and complete the following steps:
    a. Click the name of the array RG12 that you want to import in the Storage Subsystem Management window.
    b. Click Advanced -> Maintenance -> Import Array.
    c. In the confirmation window, click OK.
    d. Click Import.
    e. In the Import Array window, type yes and click OK.
    f. Click Close."

    Hi Alexander,

I cant try the import function because its not accessible in storage manager :-(. I dont see any new array in storage manager. RG12 is my array which I renamed from RG1 to RG12 because I had a feeling that Recovery Guru said that new array is RG1.

What do you think about his command: revive drive enclosureID,slotID

    thanks,

    Lukas

    Hi Lukas,

remove drive from Enc.13, slot 15. Check status. Collect DS Suport Data.
Rename array RG12 to Test1. Check status. Collect DS Suport Data.
Insert disk in Enc.13, slot 14. Check status. Collect DS Suport Data.

If any problems, post all 3 DS Suport Data files.

    Hi Alexander,

    I did:

    1. removed drive from Enc.13, slot 15. Checked status - no changes >> DS4800_ver1.zip
    2. renamed array RG1 to Test1. Checked status - no changes >> DS4800_ver2.zip
    3. inserted disk in Enc.13, slot 15 (not 14 as you wrote because disk 14 is already in). Checked status - no changes >> DS4800_ver3.zip

    thanks for your help,

    Lukas
